Details

Tiger shrimps are demersal aquatic animals, these animals are highly carnivorous, when they are under-fed. In commercial culture, its very difficult to care each individual starving shrimps, so they depends on external source, cultivating seaweed in confine condition provide mutual benefit to both the strata. Red Seaweed "Kappaphycus alvarezii" a rich source of Carrageenan. Seaweed cultivation in culture ponds provided a valuable shelter for fish and other organisms leading to increased shrimps production.Combined culture of marine algae and shrimp has recently been tested in many countries. Seaweeds are immune- modulator have antimicrobial properties, are able to absorb excessive nutrients from effluent, oxygenate water with regulating pH and maintain the general homeostasis of the environment. The growth of P. monodon cultured along with K. alvarezii was significantly higher than that of P. monodon culture alone. More exploration is needed to understand unique pattern between two strata in confine condition.
