Through understanding the internal structures of relevant ancient materials, their chemical composition, resistance, hardness, etc., their conservation can be more effectively addressed. Preserving cultural artifacts, such as those from border sites, funerary contexts (burials), railway lines, ceremonial sites and road infrastructure, is necessary to provide perspective to a culture's trajectory. Dr. PATRICIA SILVANA CARRIZO is a chemical engineer and metallographic analysis specialist. She Is a researcher at the Metallurgy Laboratory at the National Technological University at Mendoza Regional Faculty and also serves as a materials science professor. Her research focus is on industrial failure causes, cavitation issues on hydraulic turbines, and archaeometallurgy. She has presented at numerous international meetings in Peru, Argentina, Chile, and the United States.
