SOCIAL AND CULTURAL GEOGRAPHY

Social and Cultural Geography is a broad field of study that embraces two broad concepts: social issues and cultural practices. It is not easy to make distinctions between these fields of study since they share significant concepts and both are related to space and place. Social Geography is primarily concerned with the ways in which social relations, identities and inequalities are created and related to space. Cultural geography is the study of cultural products and norms and their variations across and relations to spaces and places. This book is produced to give insight of the modern socio-cultural practices in their geographic perspectives and help learners at university levels in their understanding of social and cultural geography and academic careers. The book gives objectives, activities and exercises for different sections of the contents to make the learning easy.

Biadgilgn Demissies is a lecturer in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, Mekelle University, Ethiopia. He is currently the head of the department. He offers courses in human geography, Physical geography and GIS and RS fields. He carries out research in geography (both human and physical), GIS and RS areas.
