Jürgen Blunck promovierte 1961 an der Universität Kiel im Fach Geschichte. Vor seiner Pensionierung im Jahr 2000 arbeitete er zuletzt als Bibliotheksoberrat an der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin. In seinen Zeitschriften- und Buchpublikationen hat er sich schwerpunktmäßig mit der Geschichte der Planetenkartographie beschäftigt.
