Soliton Management in Periodic Systems

In a field of study that is still in intensive development, this book provides a unique and informative snapshot of the state of the art. The volume opens with a review of the existence of robust solitons and soliton-like solitary pulses in systems built as a periodic concatenation of very different elements. Among the most famous examples are the dispersion management (DM) in fiber-optic telecommunication links, and more recently, photonic crystals. A number of other systems belonging to the same broad class of periodic strongly inhomogeneous systems (such as tandem models, the split-step model, etc.) have recently been investigated in nonlinear optics.
