Speaking Teaching Via Student-centered Approach

Speaking is the most important skill because it is one of the abilities to carry out conversation or communication. Speaking is an interactive process of constructing meaning that involves producing, receiving, and processing information (Brown, 1994; Burns & Joyce, 1997). Thus, students should have the ability to speak English in order that they can communicate with others, and teaching speaking skill is focused on making student active and creative, so that the great part of time in the process of learning speaking is dominated by students.Hence,it can be realized that CLT is an essential method of student-centered language teaching, particularly speaking that give students ample opportunity to practice and improve their speaking skill. However, the implementation of SCA in ELT classrooms is ineffective because the teacher-dominated approach is still reinforced in the classrooms.

The author was born on May 4, 1988 in Assela, Ethiopia. He joined University of Gondar and graduated in English Language and Literature with B.A degree in 2008. The author has a Masters degree in English education from Haramaya University. Currently the author is a lecturer in the department of English language and literature at Woldia University.
