Details

This research monograph relates the findings of a
study into the ways that survivors of
domestic abuse can move on with their lives and take
action to prevent their re-victimisation by
returning to education. The research aim was
to explore education as a means through
which domestic abuse survivors may effect positive
and empowering changes to their (and their
children s) lives, thereby enhancing their life
chances and preventing future re-victimisation. The
findings show the point in their moving on process
in which domestic abuse survivors decide to (re)
enter education; the personal and social factors
that enable them to become empowered by seeking to
further their educational prospects; why and how
some domestic abuse survivors seek to, and are able
to, return to education; the consequences (personal,
economic and social) of education for survivors; and
recommendations for policy and practice in terms of
strategies for information, advice and support to
facilitate survivors moving on process. The book
will appeal to anyone working in the field of
domestic abuse, as well as those who are or have
been the target of domestic abuse.
