The Control of Coupled Bending Modes in Floating Slab
Details
Structure-borne noise radiation from concrete box infrastructures, such as railway viaduct, buildings and ductwork, cause considerable nuisance to neighbours. Floating system is generally used on these box structures to reduce the vibration transmission into the receiver. Some studies have found that the bending resonances in floating slab can affect the vibration isolation performance. This book was an attempt to elaborate on the responses of the global/local modes for any rectangular box structures and identify their interaction with dynamic response of floating slab/floor and, in addition, to control the effects of bending mode in floating slab/ floor on the isolation efficiency. Unlike most current acoustics books, the complex equations in the analysis of structure-borne noise radiation are simplified and explained in a practical way in order to enable reader easy to understand. The design guidelines of floating slab to reduce the effect of bending modes are listed in details. This book provides a simpler way for engineers and academics to understand the practice in the floating slab design.

C.F. Ng is now an Associate Professor of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has extensive experience in the measurement and prediction of structure-borne noise from viaduct and ground vibration from rail. He has developed a computer model for vibration generated by various viaduct structures. The model has been used in several rail projects.
