The Discourse of Academic Lectures
Details
This book explores the meanings and uses of discourse markers in academic lectures through a discourse analytical approach. It demonstrates the patterning of the ways discourse markers are used by English native speaker lecturers. It presents an analysis of the meanings and uses of two sets of discourse markers; the connective markers (and, so and but) and the conversational interactive markers (okay, right, well and now). The author highlights the significance of the functions of these discourse markers in contributing to the coherence of lectures that should help audience listeners to notice the flow of informational content in academic lectures of native speaker lecturers.
