Details

Since 1963, the African states have been striving to
find the best design for political cooperation.
Under the direction of the new continental
organization the African Union (AU),created in 2002
and regrouping the 53 states in Africa,
the process of integration is on its way, but has
faced considerable setbacks. Today, it is widely
acknowledged that the AU has failed to attain its
principal objectives.
The research question of this study is: why the AU
has achieved very little of its objectives to bring
unity, peace, security, and development throughout
the continent. The answer is: because the AU
institutions are, to begin with, ineffective.
This book aims to understand, firstly, the ongoing
process of integration over the continent. Secondly,
it aims to study and to analyze the AU institutions
in light of the theories of the European Union
(EU).
Surely and certainly, it carries the reader towards
a new approach and a deep reflection on the issue of
integration in Africa. It is designed to help
scholars, students, and international civil servants
to complete their literature and to expand their
knowledge on African politics.
