The Woman in my Wallet
Details
In recent years, photography has had a tremendous boost through the development of smaller and cheaper means, and techniques are no longer restricted to only the professional arena. Cameras have become a gadget for private users. This raises the question of the value or the meaning of an image. The primary aim of the research was to advance knowledge and understanding of photographs in everyday life. It investigated what type of photographs people carry around, why they carry them, what meaning they have and what they say about the culture in which their owner live. As such, the book provides a starting point for a discussion about the value and meaning of still images as cultural artifacts.
