Details

Research on Reluctance machines over the past 20
years have been on axially laminated rotor
structures, control aspects, Reluctance machines
with square current waveform excitation (RDCMs) and
also on the design analysis of the machines by the
use of mathematical formulas. Research results
reveals that there is a need for a different rotor
structures as the axial one is difficult to
manufacture and also on performance analysis to
include the overall design of the RDCMs with
suitable current waveforms. The book will focus on
the critical evaluation of the torque performance of
the optimum designed Multi-phase RDCMs with normal
laminated salient pole rotor allowing for high
speed, high power applications. Optimum designed
RDCMs can best be obtained by the use of FEM in the
design optimisation process. It was found amongst
other things that torque performance of 6 phase RDCM
is slightly higher than its 5 phase counterpart. The
book is suitable for FEM design and analysis of
Electric machines with special emphasis on
Reluctance Machines. It can be recommended as a text
book for graduate students in their Electric machine
design course.
