TURKISH-AMERICAN CHILDREN WITH AUTISM AND THEIR FAMILIES

Turkish-American families of children with autism may seek information and assistance from mental health professionals. Those professionals are in a better position to provide services if they can be culturally responsive to families that have emigrated from Turkey to the United States. This concise book is a primer on what professionals need to know about Turkey and about autism in Turkey. We cover basic information about the country and family structure, the definition of autism and assessment tools used for diagnosis as well as treatment options in Turkey. This information will help service providers in the U.S. be familiar with the context for autism in Turkey, and thus more culturally responsive to the Turkish-American family.
