Ubaida bin As-Samit, was a companion of Prophet Muhammad and later one of the successful commanders of Rashidun army, served under Rashidun caliphs, Abu Bakr and Umar. One of the main field commanders during Muslim conquest of Egypt, sent with reinforcement from Madinah. Served in Egypt from 640 to 642 as a corps commander. Most Sunnis regard anyone who, in the state of faith, saw Muhammad to be a ?a??biyy. Lists of prominent companions usually run to fifty or sixty names, being the people most closely associated with Muhammad. However, there were clearly many others who had some contact with Muhammad, and their names and biographies were recorded in religious reference texts such as Ibn Sa'd al-Baghdadi's (Mu?ammad ibn Sa'd) early Kit?b at-Tab?qat al-Kab?r (The book of The Major Classes).
