Uganda in the D.R.Congo Crisis: 1998-2003
Details
The book investigates Uganda s challenges in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), it notes that the conflict in the DRC presented several challenges for her neighbors especially Uganda. Uganda claims that the fragility and ineffective control of DRC by the past governments of Joseph Mobutu, Laurent Kabila and the current Kabila Joseph made it inevitable for Uganda to intervene on DRC territory to secure Uganda s boarders. It highlights that Uganda s intervention was military occupation but it changed to support of paramilitary groups, whom it tries to rely on to secure the Eastern DRC boarder territory against Ugandan hostile groups like the ADF and LRA rebels. Conclusively, the book notes that Uganda s interference in the DRC had been undermined by ever emerging irreconcilable interests between actors that were involved in the conflict, amidst weak state institutions of the DRC.
