Details

The book is composed of personal experience, African social and politico-economic contexts, philosophical reflection, wisdom traditions and Christian theology. I ask: Why is Africa in need of wisdom theology? This is a question posed in the context of Nelson Mandel s call for an African Renaissance. Is there something to learn from the Italian Renaissance spirit? No! Instead the latters was the cause of Africa s problems. True regeneration can come out of Africas articulated wisdom. After all the Europe and the west are all seeking alternative ethical theory against deontological and utilitarian traditions. The book goes to two sources of wisdom namely: the seven traditional virtues and three wisdom traditions, namely: wisdom in the Hellenistic, Judeo-Christian and African traditions as building blocks for moral regeneration. The book draws on Scripture and its Trinitarian tradition to demonstrate how African wisdom, reinforced by the framework of virtue theory, and developed in the context of present-day Africa by an African scholar of theology, brings out the overt theological source as the distinctive Christian enterprise of an African wisdom theology.
