Details

During the heating and cooling cycle in the welding process, thermal strain occurs in the filler material and in the base metal regions close to the weld. The strain produced during heating is accompanied by plastic deformation. The non-uniform plastic deformation that occurs in the weld structure is what leads to residual stresses. These residual stresses react to produce internal forces which must be equilibrated and cause distortion [1]. Analyzing and develop a welding sequence-based methodology to reduce residual stresses, distortion, or a relation between both parameters in structures is the general objective of this work.
