WOODFUELS IN BRAZIL
Details
Despite individual efforts by various institutions to gather information on forest energy resources, Brazil is still lacks regular, systematic statistics on woodfuels production and consumption. The high degree of dispersion of consumers, the prevalence of informal markets and easy access to natural woodfuels reserves, make systematic data collection a difficult task. Thus it is necessary to estimate woodfuels consumption using indirect methods, by which woodfuels consumptions can be inferred by the observation of other highly correlated variables. The methods proposed in this book to estimate the consumption of woodfuels can be reproduced and are based on readily available data gathered by perennial institutions. The adoption of these methods and documentation of the criteria utilized to compute each variable would greatly increase the transparency and credibility Brazil's official statistics. This book is useful for energy planning professionals, policy makers and anyone interested in using indirect methods for estimating woodfuels consumption.
