This edition of "Du" is all about design. The font, image, design and language of this issue are a symbiosis of our cooperation with the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich. Even the 80-year-old "Du" logo has been specially adapted and appears in bright magentathe color accompanying the museum through its 150th anniversary. Most design museums have their roots in the 19th century, spurred by the industry's desire to encourage cities to use template collections as guidanceboth in teaching and for the middle classes as a whole. Major institutions emerged during this time: the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Royal College of Art in London, the Union Centrale and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and the Museum of Applied Arts and the accompanying university in Vienna. Over the past 150 years, what started as a small collection of decorative arts in a residential building in Zurich has grown into a museum with international appeal. Today, it extends its diverse and successful program across three physical locations into the digital realm. The different areas of a contemporary design museum are part of a complex combination of core responsibilities: exhibiting, collecting, publishing and educating. This edition of Du lays bare this dynamic while shining a spotlight on good design in all its diversity: from typography to the outstanding architecture of the museum buildings. Many of the photos on these pages were arranged and shot especially for Du. The graphic design office NORM has seamlessly blended the house style of the magazine with that of the museum, making this edition a piece of Swiss design in itself. Immerse yourself in the colorful and multifaceted world of the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich!
