1987: Six Nights in May
Details
The book recalls the first Fijian coup on 14 May, 1987, in the Fiji Parliament in session. Satendra Nandan has the last legitimate words recorded in Hansard as the military coup is staged at 10.10 am. Professor Nandan was a cabinet minister in the elected government of Dr Timoci Bavadra. This book is the only record of that nightmare in the paradise of the South Pacific. The book ends with a remarkable meeting between the Colonel who staged the coup and Satendra Nandan: they meet for the first time after 22 years. It is a unique and haunting story in the world of politics and poetry.
