Details

This book includes a comprehensive study on soil consolidation. In the first chapter, the pore pressure development and dissipation under conditions of one dimensional compression in the oedometer for clay prepared at its liquid limit is investigated. In the second chapter, an experimental program is carried out to investigate the effect of the pressure increment ratio on the shape of compression time curves and secondary compression characteristics. In the third chapter, consolidation of a clay layer delimited between sheets with small permeability is investigated. In the fourth chapter, investigation is undertaken in order to analyze the compression consolidation behavior of trampled clays in a semi- saturated state. In the fifth chapter, the effect of variable permeability and compressibility on the consolidation behavior is investigated. For this purpose, a mathematical treatment of the behavior is presented and laboratory consolidation tests with mid plane pore pressure measurements are conducted on soft, remolded, preconcolidated and undistributed samples of clay.
