A Contrastive Analysis of the Use of Conjunctions in English and Igala

This is a leading work as far as the use of conjunctions is concerned. This is because there have been few or no contrastive studies on the use of conjunctions between English and one Nigerian language, or between two Nigerian languages (comparative) over the years in Nigeria, and perhaps, other countries of the world. The reason for this is traceable to the fact that many language scholars or linguists generally believe that conjunctions are few, and as such, there is nothing much to say there. From the background/introduction to this study, the author has been able to pin down the research problem; literature review is down-to-earth and in-depth; the method is appropriate; data presentation and analysis using the books of Jonah and James of the Igala Bible to trace the use of conjunctions is insightful; and the summary, conclusion, contribution to knowledge and recommendations are captivating, thought-provoking and study-provoking as well. No doubt, this book is a global asset of immense value and a future reference material to the linguists and students of English and Linguistics in particular as well as the laymen and language enthusiasts in general.
