A Critical Review of the Powers of the Nigeria Police under the Act

The book is a research work that X-rayed the role of the Nigerian Police Force towards the administration and the process of adjudication of criminal justice system in Nigeria. It critically reviews the Police's powers under the Police Act and other enabling laws. It clearly identifies and discusses the powers as conferred on the Nigerian Police by the Police Act. The various powers to wit, arrest, question, search and detain on reasonable suspicion, release suspect on bail, take photographs, measurement and fingerprint impression of persons in Lawful custody and prosecution of offenders in the law court. They also maintain peace and order in public gathering, control traffic, among other state duties. The book gives an insight on the powers of the Nigerian Police, duties and how it impacts crime control, dispensation of justice and the constitutional guaranteed fundamental rights of the citizens and instances of arbitrariness and police brutality.
