A GNH Infused Curriculum: Promise of A Meaningful Education in Bhutan

Schooling in our modern society is aimed primarily to secure a career so that individuals will find their places in either political or economic systems. In other words, education these days is merely viewed to attain social statuses. However, many believe that education should be reconceived in such a style so that student skills and attributes are understood more fully in relation to their impact on the local as well as global community for now as well as for generations to come. The Gross National Happiness infused curriculum aspires to facilitate a holistic education that would address some of the humanistic values we need in this era. This book would reflect on how the development paradigm; the Gross National Happiness and its infusion with the curriculum by the Ministry of Education of Bhutan promise a more meaningful education to Bhutanese children. The book also to a certain extent explores global philosophical theories of education on similar concepts like that of Gross National Happiness infused curriculum.

Sonam Zangmo is a teacher from Bhutan. She graduated with an M.A in Socio-Cultural Studies of Education from US in 2014.Her passion for a Gross National Happiness Infused Curriculum makes her believe the real purpose of education is different from traditional concepts. Education must be to sustain the flourishing human civilization, not otherwise.
