A Pro-Active Approach Towards Cyber-Terrorism

Cyber-Terrorism is an evolving threat challenging everyone, from critical asset owners to also the common public which surf the web for their own particular interests. Cyber-Terrorists are resorting to online activity to recruit, disseminate their propagandistic messages, communicate between each other and also inflict punishable blows to their victims, with the sole scope to create fear upon both the victim and more importantly, to the spectators of the incident. Everyone today is involved in this battle for the safe and freedom-of-use of today's cyber-resources, and the improved awareness on this topic as well as the better understanding of who are these Cyber-Terrorists will enable us to protect and better handle cyber-incidents. In this publication, we examine the terrorist's background, tools and techniques used and their mind-set, compare our findings with what is perceived today by various key-stakeholders within our societies as well as propose a pro-active approach towards handling Cyber-Terrorism.
