High performance electric motor drives are considered an essential requirement for modern industrial applications. Accurate speed information is necessary to realize high performance and high-precision speed control of induction motor drives. Direct speed sensors imply additional electronics, extra wiring, extra space, frequent maintenance and careful mounting which detracts from the inherent robustness and reliability of the drive, and an extra cost. Many advantages of speed-sensorless induction motor drives such as reduced hardware complexity, low cost, reduced size, elimination of direct sensor wiring, better noise immunity, increased reliability, and less maintenance requirements. Mohamed S. Zaky was born in Minoufiya, Egypt, on January 11, 1978. He received the B.Sc. (with first-class honors), M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Minoufiya University, Shebin El-Kom, Egypt, in 2001, 2005, and 2008, respectively. In 2013, he became an Assistant Professor in the Minoufiya University, Egypt.
