A Socio-Cultural History of Ethiopia and the Horn
Details
Needless to say, the study of the socio-cultural history of Ethiopia is still at the stage of infancy. Historians of both Ethiopian nationals and outsiders have written focusing on the political and somehow on the economic history of the country. The socio-cultural history of Ethiopia is not yet well studied and documented. As a result, the history of Ethiopia is most of the time regarded as the history of kings or political elites. On the other hand, the masses of the Ethiopian people have been ignored as objects of their history. Recently, however, anthropologists, sociologists and ethnographers have produced several works on the socio-cultural dynamics of various societies in Ethiopia. This in turn helps historian to follow the dimension and produce very scanty works on the socio-cultural history of the nation. But, it still needs further effort to address the gap so far created in this regard.
