A Study of Dalit Caste Panchayats in Andhra Pradesh

The book provides the detailed analysis of a traditional legal system, a caste panchayat which behave like a dictator to such an extent that they do not hesitate to takes the lives of the people in the name of honor. The book takes a specific caste panchayat of 'Madiga' community in Andhra Pradesh and discusses the structure of the panchayat, cases and punishments given by it and rationale behind its decisions, and also the reasons why such institutions are still in existence after having very well established law system.

Chandra Sekhar,recipient of UK-Visiting- Charles Wallace India Trust and AHRC fellowships 2016-17 is presently doing Ph.D in the Dept of Cultural Studies at the English and Foreign Languages University,Hyderabad,India. His present research is on Dalits Conversion to Christianity in Rayalaseema during Colonial period.
