A Study of Gated Communities Characteristics in Ibadan, Nigeria

This is a study of the physical environment, social characteristics and residents' perception of safety in gated community, Ibadan, Nigeria. The study identifies relevant factors which are relevant to fear of crime. The study employed the conceptual framework of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design as a strategy to combat crime. The study has implications for ensuring enhanced safety in the future design and development of gated community and is essential for housing policy formulation in Nigeria. This study will serve as a good feedback to government and gated communities technocrats in third world nations generally, and Nigeria in particular, by providing them with relevant information that will guide in gated communities improvement and development.
