A Theology of the Unity of the Church in a Multi-Ethnic Context
Details
A Theology of the Unity of the church in Multi-Ethnic Context is a must read. The book provides an understanding of social and ecclesial dynamics associated to ethnic diversity. The ethnic affiliation and exclusion have often resulted in ethnic divisions and tensions, culminating in violent confrontations. The unity of the church is presented in this excellent book as antidote to evils associated with negative ethnicity. P. Mbandi critically evaluates different approaches to ecclesial theology and delineates a proper theological hermeneutics. The book, further, provides a biblical evaluation of Homogeneous Unit Principle (HUP) and argues for the unity of the church that transcends the ethnic exclusion of the "others." The inclusion of "alien converts" to God s People in the Old Testament and Christ s redemptive work in the New Testament are used as theological basis for the unity of the church. Based on the Christian doctrine of the Trinity and pneumatology, he gives a convincing argument for "integrative" ethnic unity that is characterized by a mutual embracing and edification of one another in a multi-ethnic context.
