Academic Freedom for Faculty Members and Students

This book attempts to explore the perceptions of faculty members, students and members of the academic leadership on academic freedom. Similarly, the role of the Faculty of Education in relation to safeguarding academic freedom of faculty members and students is presented. The study applies a research strategy focusing on a qualitative case study in order to examine and collect comprehensive and detailed information on academic freedom. It offers insights that help to understand the concept of academic freedom and provides valuable information for those who are particularly interested in the issues of academic freedom. The result indicates that academic freedom is essential for both faculty members and students to conduct academic activities. Furthermore, the result shows that political instability is the major threat for academic freedom of faculty members and students. The study also reveals that the Faculty of Education has not paid significant attention to safeguard academic freedom of its members.

Mr. Chhatra Bahadur Karki has been teaching in GMS Multiple Campus, Nepal. He taught master's level courses in Tribhuvan University and Kathmandu University. He has completed MPhil in Higher Education in 2015 from the University of Oslo, Norway. He also obtained Master's Degree in ELT from Kathmandu University,Nepal and published some books of ELT.
