Details

The balance and interaction between anorexigenic and orexigenic factors originating from gastrointestinal tract, central nervous system and adipose tissue appear to play an important role in short-term regulation of food intake, energy homeostasis and growth hormone release. An impairment of this balance may result in eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa (BN). Hence, we will study the effect of exercise alone or together with anti-lipolytic drug Acipimox on the gut-brain-adipose tissue hormone secretion in patients with BN. We will determine relationship between plasma ghrelin, growth hormone, neuropeptide Y and leptin secretion under basal conditions and after physical exercise alone or together with Acipimox administration in patients with BN and healthy women. In vivo microdialysis technique we will use to determine the effect of exercise alone or together with Acipimox administration on local glycerol concentrations in subcutaneous abdominal adipose tissue in both groups. The present study has a high impact on understanding the pathogenic mechanisms that may contribute to introduction of more specific pharmacological interventions in eating disorders.
