Active Flutter Control

Disk flutter or flow induced vibration becomes the most challenging problem among all the mechanical disturbances in many applications, such as floppy disk drives, CDROM, DVD and circular saws including rotating disks in hard disk drives (HDDs). Currently, the disks in HDD that achieves 10 terabit/in2 areal density and tracking accuracy in the sub-nanometer level, the main focus lies on finding a solution to the dynamic problems of the HDD, including disk flutter, track misregistration, fluid-structure interaction and other unwanted vibrations. Active Flutter Control provides the foundation necessary to understand the instabilities caused by fluid-structure interaction. The book explains the modeling of fluid-structure coupling and its active control. It gives basic ideas on flow induced vibrations and interactive guidelines for flutter analysis and its control. An ideal book for advanced undergraduates because the analysis should help shed some light on these new and exciting fields, and should be especially useful to the professionals as well as the scientist and researchers interested in flutter control.

Md. Emdadul Hoque, PhD is an assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh. He is now a JSPS post-doctoral fellow at Saitama University in Japan. He is a fellow of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, a member of IEEE and ASME.
