Addis Abebe (born September 5, 1970) is a former long-distance runner from Ethiopia, best known for winning a bronze medal in the 10,000 metres at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Addis is his first name meaning new, and his last name, Abebe means "blooming", while "Abeba" means "flower", both from the same Semitic root. Long-distance track event races require runners to balance their energy. These types of races are predominantly aerobic in nature and at the highest level, exceptional levels of aerobic endurance is required more than anything else. Elite long distance athletes typically train over 100 miles a week.
