Additives derived from nopal to modify the properties of mortars

The use of new additives to modify the behavior of cementing materials. This is useful for improving the properties of mixtures, as well as reducing production costs. The additives arabinose and xylose were used in the elaboration of cement pastes and compressive strength at 3, 7, 14 and 28 days was determined to establish the hardening time and paste consistency. Later, mortar specimens were made to test the compressive strength and flow test. It was proved, with the obtained results, that arabinose and the xylose components of the nopal that can be used as additives. The addition of 5% of these components, with regard to the mass of cement, increases the resistance to compression, improves fluidity and works as a retardant in the hardening process.
