Advancing Gender Mainstreaming in Agriculture

Gender refers to 'The socially constructed characteristics of women and men - such as norms, roles and relationships between groups of women and men'. Gender mainstreaming is an approach to policy-making that takes into account both women's and men's interests and concerns.The concept of gender mainstreaming was first introduced at the Nairobi World Conference on Women (1985). It was established as a strategy in international gender equality policy through the Beijing Platform for action, adopted at the Fourth United Nation World Conference on Women at Beijing (1995) and subsequently adopted as a tool to promote gender. ~ Council of EuropeGender equality means equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities of women and men, girls and boys.Gender equity is the process of being fair to women and men according to their respective needs.
