AFRICAN WORLDVIEW CHANGE
Details
The book discusses the integration of primal, Islamic, and contemporary worldviews among the Digo, and how such integration impacts the practice of ritual prayers. Over a period of about four hundred years the Digo have seen the change of their worldview from the primal worldview centered in the traditional shrine (kaya), to the Islamic worldview centered in the mosque. In addition the Digo have to grapple with modernity with all its beuracratic systems and capitalistic economy. The book also suggests models of contextualizing the gospel to the Digo, through prayer forms. The theories of contextualization discussed include translation theory, hermeneutical theory, incarnation theory, and C5 contextualization. These theories may be viewed in a continuum with translation at one end, and C5 contextualization at the other end.
