Details

This unified approach to teaching the physics of combustion, fluid dynamics and other properties of aircraft engines covers both modern and historical power units and features exercises and extensive data that allow readers to evaluate comparative results.

Airbreathing Propulsion covers the physics of combustion, fluid and thermo-dynamics, and structural mechanics of airbreathing engines, including piston, turboprop, turbojet, turbofan, and ramjet engines. End-of-chapter exercises allow the reader to practice the fundamental concepts behind airbreathing propulsion, and the included PAGIC computer code will help the reader to examine the relationships between the performance parameters of different engines. Large amounts of data have on many different piston, turbojet, and turboprop engines have been compiled for this book and are included as an appendix. This textbook is ideal for senior undergraduate and graduate students studying aeronautical engineering, aerospace engineering, and mechanical engineering.

A unified approach for teaching the physics of combustion, fluid dynamics, and other properties of aircraft engines Contains many illustrations, tables, and specifications on a large number of aircraft engines, modern and historical Features exercises and extensive data tables that help the reader examine the effects of different performance parameters on the output of an engine Includes supplementary material: sn.pub/extras

Autorentext

Tarit Bose is a retired professor of aerospace engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M), India. He retired in 1998 after 27 years of teaching Thermodynamics, Aircraft Propulsion, CFD and Plasma Dynamics. During his time at IIT-M; Tarit supervised 16 masters level candidates and 10 doctoral candidates.

Prof. Bose received his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Munich, West Germany in 1960, and he received his Doctorate in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Stuttgart, West Germany in 1965. From June 1968 to May 1970, Prof. Bose worked for NASA-NRC as a resident research associate in the heat transfer group, in the propulsion research and advanced concepts section of Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Pasadena. Prior to JPL, Prof. Bose was a research fellow at the University of Minnesota heat transfer laboratory.

In 1998 Prof. Bose joined Metacomp Technologies, Agoura Hills, CA as a research scientist. He has since retired and is pursuing personal projects.
