Alan John Carpenter (born 4 January 1957) is a former Australian politician. He was the 28th Premier of Western Australia, serving from 2006 to 2008. He took office following the resignation of Dr Geoff Gallop. His government was defeated at the 2008 election. Carpenter was a Labor member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 1996 to 2009, representing the district of Willagee. Prior to becoming Premier he was Minister for Education and Indigenous Affairs (2001 2003), Minister for Education and Training (2003 2005), and Minister for State Development and Minister for Energy (2005 2006).
