Oxidation reactions play an important role in organic chemistry and there is an increasing demand for selective and mild oxidation methods in modern organic synthesis. Particularly, selective oxidation of alcohols to corresponding carbonyl compounds or carboxylic acids is a key transformation in synthetic organic chemistry. The focus of this book is on the selective oxidation of alcohols to carbonyl compounds using a new DABCO-Cu catalyst and direct oxidation of primary alcohols to carboxylic acids using CuCl as the catalyst and its extension to the enantioselective oxidation i.e. oxidative kinetic resolution (OKR) using chiral copper catalyst to synthesize chiral alcohols, which are important structural units for the synthesis of a wide range of natural products, chiral ligands and biologically active compounds. This book contains a brief introduction for the known methods, detailed discussion about alcohol oxidation with enough experimental support. Over 240 references regarding alcohol oxidation and OKR from the original literature are cited.
