Alfred Nobel and The Nobel Laureates

On November 27, 1895, Alfred Nobel signed his last will in Paris. The Nobel Foundation was established in 1900 based on the will of Alfred Nobel. Since 1901, the Nobel Prize has been honoring people (except few years in between when the prize money was allocated to the Special Fund of this prize section) from all corners of the globe for outstanding achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and for work in peace. In 1968, the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences was established in memory of Alfred Nobel, the founder of the Nobel Prize. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded 101 times to a total of 156 individuals since 1901. The concise biographies of all those Nobel laureates in chemistry have been collectively presented in this book with a concept intended as a reference volume for scientists of all disciplines, whether chemistry students or professional and particularly for those who may come across works related to chemical science. The mode of presentation is simple to enable readers with a little or elementary knowledge of the subject to know-how about the Nobel laureates with their outstanding lifetime contributions in chemistry.

Pawan Raj Shakya, M.Sc., M.A, M.S., born on 26 August 1967 at Kathmandu, Nepal is presently a reader in chemistry at Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Chirika S. Tamrakar, born on 26 November 1955 at Kathmandu, Nepal is a senior reader in Chemistry at Tribhuvan University, Nepal. She earned her M.Sc.degree in chemistry from the same university in 1978.
