Ali's Theater for Reason: An Edwardian Analysis of Usman Ali's Plays is a unique and thought-provoking examination of the postmodern playwright Usman Ali. This dramaturgy explores Usman Ali's dramatic approach through the lens of the dramatic theory of renowned English playwright Edward Bond. Its significance lies in its novel application of Bond's theories to the dramatic work of Usman Ali.The analysis highlights various aspects of South Asian cultures, customs, and clichés, grounded in distinct social classes and structures. Through five plays, it explores themes such as 9/11, the War on Terror, and the multiple layers of Pakistani culture and artistry. Additionally, it challenges the binary opposition of class divisions in society.Moreover, the work offers a profound portrayal of the role of drama in society. As Edward Bond famously said, "Drama mirrors society," and Usman Ali passionately reflects the many layers of the samaj (society). The plays move from Marsai to Chaudhry, Hero to Zero, Artist to common man, Intellectual elite to barbarianism, Atrocity and cruelty to sympathy, and the Seven Deadly Sins to the Seven Virtues.
