She is a member of the Conservative Party and formerly served as the Parliamentary Secretary for Multiculturalism. In 2011, Wong was appointed as the Minister of State for Seniors by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, becoming the first Chinese-Canadian woman to sit in Cabinet. Wong immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong in 1980.
