Ambrosio J. Olmos (1839-1906)

This research is an approach to the life and work of a great businessman, merchant and landowner, considering that his performance should be included in the characterization of capitalist, being a pioneer of new types of exploitation and agro-livestock production, framed in an avant-garde progressivism worthy of emulation. Self-taught as he lacked a solid education, although he was the owner of a growing interest in commercial and entrepreneurial activity that would turn him into a very wealthy merchant, businessman and landowner, he became the owner of more than 900,000 hectares, a figure higher than what was attributed to him by his contemporaries and some researchers, who only seem to have taken into account those lands that he kept as estancias, when he put them into production. Ambrosio Olmos proved to be the owner of great perspicacity and intelligence for business of all kinds that he was to undertake almost as an adventure in the Indian frontier, being crowned by an enviable success and reputation, which means that he decidedly found "his place in the world".
