"Americanization: the Spread of American Culture around the Globe"

The book focuses on the currently popular sociological phenomenon "Americanization". The author aims to analyse the reasons for the spread of American culture and American system of values in general. In its attempt to establish the prerequisites for the expansion of the ideas and norms made in the USA, the work covers economic, social, political and cultural spheres of life where certain traits of Americanization can be identified. Considering the reaction of the cultures receiving American values, the book comes to a conclusion that Americanization is a process of ambivalent nature. The readers are encouraged to find out about the influence (constructive or destructive) that Americanization entails.

Having studied linguistics in Russia, Irina Lebedeva moved to Germany and studied anglistics at TU Chemnitz. Inspired by the new ideas taught at TUC, she wrote the graduation paper Understanding Americanization: the Spread of American Culture around the Globe in sociology and hopes it to be a little help for those involved in American studies.
