An Approach to Contextualising Feminist Writings in African Culture
Details
Afro-centric feminist theories emerged from the imperative to contextualize literary texts in African culture in order to obtain the true meanings of the feminist intents in the texts. This book re-emphasizes this point and examines four popular Afro-centric notions of feminism in Africa, namely Stiwanism, Motherism, Womanism and Nego-Feminism - with the view to ascertaining their congruity with African culture. Afro Feminisms, the new strategy proposed in the study, is a harmony of the ideas, and more, of the earlier four notions of feminism from Africa. Two Nigerian literary texts were selected to explicate this new strategy. This book is of interest to African and non-African researchers who are curious about evincing true meanings from literary African feminist texts.
