An Examination of the Local Government of Nigeria

Nigerian Local Government and the challenges for Democratic consolidation is a product of a well researched academic exercise. It critically examined the system of Local Government in Nigeria as a Third tier of Government within the context of democratic principles. Implied here are basic principles such as popular participation, accountability, free,fair and regular elections,minority rights and rights of opposition parties to offer constructive criticisms of the ruling government.Using a conceptual framework of political development theory, the salient findings of the work reveals that Scholars,Government officials and Citizens generally, have observed that Local Government are more in default than the attainment of those specific objectives it was set out to achieves.As a matter of concern therefore just like other eminent exponents in the fields of both political Science and developmental studies the book having made exhaustive research has equally attempted to create some panaceas towards making the Local Government meet its expectations.The text book is therefore recommended for university students of Political Science,and a reference book for all students of Social Sciences.
