An investigation of the impact on Eskom of the delivery of renewables

A book on the investigation of the impacts on Eskom of the delivery of renewable energy by Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to the South African Eskom National Grid. In South Africa, coal combustion has been the major energy source for electricity generation and only one company, Eskom SOC (State Owned Company) had the mandate to generate electricity for the South African nation. Some power generated in South Africa is sold to neighbouring countries such as Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana and Mozambique. In recent years the South African government has introduced a policy which allows for Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to generate electricity for sale to Eskom at a regulated price as part of a strategy to strengthen the National Grid. This programme is referred to as the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Programme (REIPPP). The generation of additional electricity through renewable resources by IPPs is undoubtable important to boost the insufficient national grid and strengthen the capacity of the electricity network.
