Analysis of the Belo Monte HPP Environmental Impact Study

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and the respective Environmental Impact Report (RIMA) are important documents in the environmental licensing process for potentially environmentally damaging activities. In the state of Pará, the construction of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant led to major discussions about the content covered in the EIA/RIMA and that established by the Terms of Reference. As such, the aim of this book was to verify the conformity of this study with the guiding document and to present reports and discussions by experts and residents on the hydroelectric project. The analysis was carried out by studying the aforementioned documents and drawing up a state of the art of the project by gathering reports on Belo Monte.
