Details

Anaemia during pregnancy continues to be a major public health concern in both developed and developing countries as well as in Palestine particularly in Gaza strip in spite of UNRWA and governmental intervention and ongoing efforts to tackle the problem. Where, recent studies demonstrated that the prevalence of anaemia is still very high comparing with other states in the region. A cross sectional surveyed targeted antenatal women attending UNRWA clinics conducted to describe and analyze their awareness, opinions, attitudes and health education sessions on anaemia . About 164 pregnant women were surveyed at different UNRWA clinics. The study indicated that a high proportion of women had a general knowledge on anaemia perception and concept. However, awareness of anaemia among some women was inadequate, and those women still have lack of specific information or had superficial knowledge on some issues regarding anaemia, that may be contribute to increase the prevalence of anaemia among women, particularly, during pregnancy. The study suggests that a well and clear health education sessions strategy regarding anaemia needs to be more effective and efficient.
